Here you are, ready to take on the world. You have a perfect virtual assistant portfolio in your hands waiting for clients to be impressed. Then again, the question is, who are you gonna impress? Most likely, you are reading these virtual assistant networking tips to land more if not your first client. Congratulations, you are on the right track. So here we go!
1. Start close. We all have friends and families. Let these people know what you are up to. They are your walking sales agents. Some VAs are not comfortable letting people know what they can offer because they don't want to sound 'salesly' but hey, these people got connections. Or they might not have the connections you need but they have the information you need. One day you’ll be surprised by some family members or friends sending you a DM of a link about possible opportunities.
2. Next closer to home. If you have resigned from your job, it is also good to let your former employers and co-workers know about your services. That information may get handy if they need or if the people they're dealing with need someone real quick for certain projects.
3. Networking groups. Want to become a kick-ass VA? Try learning from both aspiring and seasoned ones through a networking group of VAs. Or a networking group where your niche offering is possibly needed.
4. Social Media. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn--social media is a must right now. Especially during this pandemic, more and more people are into the sphere. You might find your next client there. Join social media groups, showcase what you can do, follow potential clients.
5. Shortlisting potential companies. It will just take a click to search about organizations that might be needing your services. It is not necessarily that it be something related to what you do. Just offer companies what you can do and take it from there.
6. Network through live and virtual events. If you have a chance to join live events where you can potentially meet fellow VAs and clients go for it. Joining virtual events will also allow you to reach a more diverse group.
7. Host something for free. If you are an expert at something, try hosting a free workshop, short course, or a seminar related to it. It is a good chance to subtly advertise what you can do. It is also a good chance to get testimonials and possible referrals.
8. Become a contributor. Contribute something like an online article, photograph, or anything where you will be known and where you can link your profile.
9. Gain experience. If you are just starting, it does not hurt to join or get an internship somewhere to gain experience. Not only will you meet people of the same passion, but you will also learn from the trade of the craft.
10. Referral and testimonials. People are drawn to reading reviews before jumping into something. It's like a part of life in this online world. After all, a good experience creates that level of trust and confidence. If you have previous work, don't be shy to ask for testimonials from it and show the world why they should be choosing you.
